AgriSound and APIS Partner to Advance Precision Pollination Monitoring and Research

New collaboration will help growers understand how monitoring technology can support pollination management, field research and crop performance.

AgriSound, a leader in insect monitoring technology, has announced a new strategic partnership with the Applied Pollination Institute of Science (APIS), an independent pollination science and advisory organisation founded by pollination scientist Angelita De la Luz, PhD.

The partnership will combine AgriSound’s state of the art in-field monitoring technology with APIS’s expertise in pollination science, study design and grower education. Together, the organisations will help growers, crop advisers and researchers better understand how technology can be used to measure pollinator activity and support evidence-based decisions.

Pollination is a critical contributor to the yield, quality and consistency of many crops. However, pollinator activity is often assessed through occasional visual observations, making it difficult to understand how conditions change across a field or throughout flowering.

AgriSound’s Polly™ monitoring system uses in-field sensors to measure insect activity continuously, alongside environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity. The resulting data enables growers and researchers to examine when and where pollinator activity occurs and how it responds to management practices, weather conditions and pollination interventions.

Through the partnership, AgriSound and APIS intend to:

  • Develop educational materials, webinars and practical guidance for growers and crop advisers.
  • Demonstrate how pollination monitoring can be incorporated into commercial crop production.
  • Collaborate on field trials and applied research projects.
  • Support the design and delivery of studies investigating pollination optimisation.
  • Help growers interpret pollinator activity data and translate the findings into practical action.
  • Share evidence and case studies that build understanding of technology-enabled pollination management.

Casey Woodward, founder and CEO of AgriSound, said:

“Pollination is fundamental to crop production, but it remains one of the least measured parts of the growing process. Our technology gives growers and researchers a much clearer picture of pollinator activity in the field. By working with APIS, we can combine that data with deep scientific expertise and turn it into knowledge that growers can use.

We want pollination monitoring to become a practical part of crop management rather than something confined to individual research projects. This partnership will help bridge the gap between technology, science and action in the field.”

Dr Angelita De la Luz, founder of APIS, said:

“Effective pollination management begins with understanding what is happening in the crop. Monitoring technologies have enormous potential to strengthen both commercial decision-making and scientific research, provided the data is collected and interpreted appropriately. This partnership will help growers, advisers and researchers use these tools with confidence and generate evidence that can improve pollination outcomes.”

The collaboration will initially focus on grower education, joint research opportunities and the development of practical approaches for incorporating continuous monitoring into pollination studies. AgriSound and APIS will also explore opportunities to work with growers, research organisations, crop advisers and food businesses interested in improving pollination performance.
